First Letter - Method

An easy way to help anyone memorize a specific scripture verse. Every verse can be boiled down to the first letters of each word. Using the letters as a memory jogger to repeat the verse. Example: Philippians 4:8

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report;
if there be any virtue,
and if there be any praise,
think on these things.

Most verses then can be further reduced to only the first letter of each line. On this particular verse, it may be best to reduce it down to the last letter of each line:

Hand Motions / Body Language

Some verses are great for using body language or hand motions to help the learner memorize scripture. This method is great for elementary kids! Howeer this method is not effective for many / most verses.

Here's an examle where this method does great:

Psalm 34:8
O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed isthe man that trusteth in him.

“O taste”     = point to mouth

“and see”     = point to eyes

“that the Lord”     = point to heaven (up)

                 “is good”     = rub tummy

(the correct sign (sign language) for good is touch mouth with right hand fingers and move down into left hand palm, facing up)

(other signs for remainder of verse)

“blessed”            = both hands make “a” fist and touch both thumbs to corners of mouth.  Move hands down ending with a “5” hand.  (open fingers, palm facing down)

“is the man”           = with right hand only, act like you are grabing an imaginary ball cap on your head then end with fingers closed together pointing up and touch your hand (fist) to the middle of your chest.

“that trusts”           = both hands are open in front, act like grabbing something and bring them both together in “s fists” with right hand on top of left hand.  (Like you are taking something and making it yours)

“in thee”    = point right hand up towards heaven with fingers closed
