16 Ways Individuals & Churches Can Help Plant a Church
Church Planting is Exciting!
Would you like to get involved in church planting? You can! Here are a few suggestions how you can have a part in seeing new churches started.

Who can get involved in starting a church? Anyone! However, here is a short list of people who can make an impact in the expansion of the Kingdom of God!

Examples of How Individuals & Groups can Help Start Churches:
1. Become a SLBA Kingdom Church Strategy Partner
The Kingdom Church Strategy helps both churches and individual become active in community outreach, missions and church planting in their local context. 2. Adopt a ZIP code
The Salt Lake Baptist Association covers all or parts of six counties: Salt Lake, Utah, Davis, Tooele, Summit & Wasatch. It also includes at over 80 identifiable communities. Of the 104 ZIP codes in our association, there are only 20 with a SBC church or mission. If you would like to impact an area: First, contact the SLBA office to learn about the zip code where you live or the surrounding ZIP codes near your church. Second, "Adopt a ZIP code" and take the lead in beginning new ministries or outreaches in that ZIP code. Third, let the SLBA help you gather demographics about your area and survey the community to see what needs you can fulfill. Fourth, pray for the Lord ot give you wisdom and open doors as you try to reach your selected ZIP code. Fifth, enlist the help of other Christians or organizations to assist you in ministering to your target community. Click here to contact SLBA.
3. Start a Bible club in a school
Due to a Supreme Court ruling in 2001, public schools can not refuse religious organizations the use of their facilities as the school buildings were deemed public property. Yea! The CEF of Utah (Child Evangelism Fellowship) is ready to work with any church to open the doors into their public school. If you (an individual or a church) would like to explore the possibilities of going into the school, please call Brady Snyder of CEF. 4. Mission Service Corps
Mission Service Corps (MSC) is a team of self-funded missionaries who serve for four months or more. They provide their own support in an assigned ministry that supports the evangelism and church planting efforts of the North American Mission Board (NAMB) and its mission partners. The placement comes through the Mission Service Corps office of the North American Mission Board.
MSC is for any adult that can work an average of 20 hours a week in a volunteer capacity for a church, mission or ministry. As a MSC volunteer your are offically appointed by the NAMB as a mission volunteer, assigned to a ministry and prayed for on a regular basis. 5. High Schol Mission Opportunities: Sojourners
Sojourners are high school students who work with missionaries and churches in evangelism and church planting projects in the United States and Canada. Ministry settings vary from inner city to the beach. Sojourners serve with other student missionaries and/or career missionaries.
Basic Qualifications
• Candidates must have completed either their junior or senior year of high school when they begin serving.
• Candidates must have a minimum 2.0 GPA.
• Candidates serve 4-10 weeks during the summer.
• Candidates will receive travel, insurance and an honorarium ($50 per week of service) from NAMB.
• Room and board will be provided by the place of service.

6. --- NAMB College Opportunites: Summer Missions
Summer missionaries assist local churches, campus ministries, and NAMB missionaries with evangelism and church planting. Their work concentrates on helping in community ministries, ministering to teenagers, working with campus ministries, or assisting in church planting.
Basic Qualifications
• Candidates must have completed their freshman year in college and have a minimum 2.0 GPA.
• Candidates must be an active member of a Southern Baptist church to receive travel funds and honorarium.
• Candidates may serve from 4-10 weeks, May through August.
• Candidates will receive travel, insurance and an honorarium ($75 per week of service) from NAMB.
• Room and board provided by the place of service.
• Application DeadlineApril 20, 2008

---- NAMB College Opportunites: Innovators
This pathway of service is designed for students who desire a hands-on experience of taking their Christian witness to the work place. Innovators work at a secular job (usually 40 hours a week) while assisting local missionaries (8-10 hours a week) in evangelism and church planting. Supervision and mentoring provided by the place of service.
Basic Qualifications
• Innovators are self-funded college missionaries.
• Candidates must have completed their freshman year in college.
• Candidates must have a minimum 2.0 GPA.
• Term of service varies according to ministry setting.
• Candidates may be members of a non-Southern Baptist evangelical church.

---- NAMB College Opportunites: Semester Missions
Semester missionaries assist local churches, campus ministries, and NAMB missionaries with evangelism and church planting. Their work concentrates on helping in community ministries, ministering to teenagers, working with campus ministries, or assisting in church planting.
Semester missionaries:
• Candidates must have completed their freshman year in college and have a minimum 2.0 GPA.
• Semester missionaries serve from 1 to 5 semesters.
• Semester missionaries receive travel, insurance and monthly honorarium from NAMB.
• Room and board provided by the place of service.
• Candidates must be an active member of a Southern Baptist church to receive travel and honorarium.
• Candidates must not have been out of school more than six months at the time of application.

7. Start a Neighborhood After School Kids Club
Do you live in a neighborhood where there are kids? Then you have all you need to begin a weekly kids club! Most clubs are held in backyards, homes or multihousing activity rooms. This type of ministry is cheap to operate but has many wonderful fruits! The Salt Lake Baptist Association has many resources to help you organize and conduct a successful kids club.

8. Start a Bible Study
Bible studys are great ways to not only bring people to the Lord, disciple new believers but also form the nuceus for a new church plant! The possibilities are endless! Here are a few places where you can begin a Bible study, but the best idea is the one that works for you...
Start a Bible study in your home
Begin a Bible study at your work during break or before/after working hours
Have a Bible study for mothers
Begin a Bible study in a Truck stop, Jail, or Prison
Start a Bible study on a college campus
Initiate a Bibe study at a high school
Hold a weekly Bible study at a coffee shop or other restaraunt
Offerf a Bible study in a nursing home or other assisted living residence
Start a Bible study in a mobile home park or apartment complex activity center
Offer to teach a Bible study at your neighbors house or apartment

9. Pray for a Church Planter
Church planters are people just like you who allowed the Lord to use them to begin a new church. And, probably like you, they need lots of prayer! Prayer is powerful! Are you a prayer warrior? Would you be willing to pray for some of our church planters who are on the cutting edge of starting new works? 10. Get Involved with World Changers
Help change someone's world - and perhaps you might even change yours! World Changers is coming to Salt Lake City in July 2008. 11. Invite a Church Planter to Speak at your Church
Don't you love true inspiring stories of how God provides in the midst of need? Me too! Get fired up about what the Lord is doing right here in our own Salt Lake Valley by having one of our church planters or layperson share about what God is doing in their ministry. 12. Take a Mission Trip
One of the best ways to teach Christians about missions is to show them first hand! There are many mission projects available to you in a variety of settings. Local, out of state, and even over seas opportunities are possible. Remember, "The heart can not feel for that the eyes have not seen." Show your church missions first hand. Mission opportunities are availalbe for individuals, families, churches, youth gourps, adult groups, Acteens and more. Search these links for a good place to start your mission adventure!

13. Send your Teens on a PowerPlant Mission Trip
PowerPlant is a mission trip designed for high school students and higher to give them first hand experience in church planting activities. The SLBA along with South Valley Baptist Church is organizing a PowerPlant mission trip for 11th grade students and up to Denver, CO. The dates are June 14-20, 2008 and the cost is aproximately $300 per person. Adult sponsors are also needed. Click here to find our more about this great opportunity or to register.
14. Host a Mission Team at your Church
Mission teams from all over the country are willing to come to Salt Lake City to help with evangelism, kids clubs, VBS, construction or any other project your church may want done. Don't let this great resource of manpower pass you bye! All your church needs to do is help plan out what project you want them to do and let them do it. You only need to encourage and thank them for coming and pick up the spiritual fruit that is produced! 15. Create a Church Mission Development Council
A church Mission Development Council oversees all the mission opportunities at a local church. This council helps see the need and mobilize the members of a church to action. Did you know that many Christians would get involved in outreach and missions if someone would only ask them? The MDC helps to ask, direct and support! 16. Contribute to the Cooperative Program and other Mission Offerings
Did you know that the Southern Baptist Convention is the largest protestant religious organization in the United States? We also support more full time missionaries, both in the US and Internationally than any other mission organization. How can we do this? Because we pool our money through the Cooperative Program.
